BA – Biblical Studies Minor
BA – Biblical Studies Minor
General Information
The Disciplinary Minor in Biblical Studies is primarily offered to students of the Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), subject to the specified entry requirements. However, we also welcome students from other faculties at ELTE, as well as visiting students from other institutions, provided they obtain approval from the program coordinator. No prior knowledge of biblical languages is required to complete the minor, although opportunities to study them are available. This program serves as an excellent complement to studies in literature, history, culture, and art history.
Admission to the Minor
To enroll in the Biblical Studies Minor, students must be admitted to the university and fulfill the minor's entry requirements, which include successfully completing the "Knowing the Bible" course with a minimum grade of "good."
Students majoring in Hebrew Studies or pursuing a specialization in Religious Studies may also enroll in the minor. However, overlapping courses between their major and the minor will not be recognized within the minor. To complete the minor, students are required to finish the courses designated by the minor program coordinator. Prior to obtaining the final certificate (absolutorium), both the minor coordinator and the major specialization coordinator must confirm that no courses overlap between the two programs.
Students who wish to enroll in the Biblical Studies Minor but have not yet met the prerequisite of completing the "Knowing the Bible" course with at least a good grade are encouraged to enroll in courses offered during the academic year. These courses will be credited retroactively when students officially apply for the minor specialization (in May–June).
